"Imagine" (1986), John Lennon
Here's a selection from the thirty music videos Rybczyński made while resident in New York. Some, from Simple Minds and similar artists, are strictly work for hire. Others develop the director's interest in animated movement and chromakey effects.
The original video for "Imagine" was also the first ever video made in high definition. It is rarely seen, compared with the excerpt from the full-length Imagine film. That excerpt was never meant to be a music video.
Instead, Ono commissioned Zbigniew Rybczyński, whose music video won the Silver Lion award at Cannes and the Festival Award at the Rio International Film Festival.
"Close (To The Edit)" (1984), Art of Noise
This video won the 1985 MTV Video Music Awards for Most Experimental Video and Best Editing. On the other hand, it was banned in New Zealand for "encouraging violence towards children".
"The Real End" (1984), Rickie Lee Jones
"P-Machinery" (1985), Propaganda
